Hobsonville Marina has completed a substantial upgrade to its hardstand area, cementing its reputation as one of Auckland's premier full-service marinas and refit destinations.
The centrepiece of the project was the tar sealing of the majority of the hardstand surface, adding around 1,800 square metres of sealed area. For boat owners and marine service operators alike, the benefits are tangible: improved site drainage, a significant reduction in dust, better accessibility across the yard, and a sturdier, safer environment suited to everything from routine haul-outs and maintenance visits to short or long-term storage.

Constructed in the late 1980s, Hobsonville Marina ranks among the largest privately operated recreational marinas in New Zealand. Sitting within Auckland's upper Waitematā Harbour, it enjoys straightforward access from the city centre via either the Harbour Bridge or State Highway 16, making it a convenient base for local boat owners and those passing through.
Underpinning the marina's full-service offering is a well-equipped marine service centre capable of managing everything from a quick pre-race water blast right through to a comprehensive refit programme. Two travel lifts operate on the hardstand to cover a wide range of vessel sizes: a 75-tonne lift accommodating a maximum beam of 6.4 metres, and a 35-tonne lift with a maximum beam of 5.5 metres.

Beyond haul-out and hardstand services, the marina provides short and long-term berthing for vessels up to 30 metres. Owners with larger craft can access berths accommodating vessels up to 40 metres through the broader Marinas Group at Bayswater Marina. A retail and service precinct within easy walking distance of all piers adds day-to-day convenience for crews and owners spending time at the marina.
With the Hauraki Gulf and its well-known island cruising grounds close at hand, Hobsonville Marina is well placed for sailing, fishing, and vessel maintenance. The hardstand upgrade reflects a long-term investment in the marina's physical infrastructure, delivering real gains for the safety and efficiency of operations across the entire marina community.
