HanseYachts AG has confirmed that its new Hanse 461 cruiser will head to the French Riviera this autumn for its global unveiling. The 46-foot sailing yacht is scheduled to make its public world premiere during the Cannes Yachting Festival, which runs from 8 to 13 September 2026.
The launch brings back a well-known model designation for the German yard. Exactly two decades after the original 461 generation built its reputation among blue-water cruisers, this modern iteration arrives not as a clean-sheet prototype, but as an engineered evolution. Utilising the established structural footprint of the award-winning Hanse 460 platform, the new 461 refines that proven foundation with an entirely reconfigured stern layout, a re-engineered interior, and upgraded deck mechanics tailored to current shorthanded sailing expectations.

Engineering for reduced crew dynamics
Designed in partnership with naval architects Berret-Racoupeau, the 461 evolves the engineering platform established by the previous Hanse 460. The design brief centres on a highly manageable sail plan that allows a couple or a solo helmsperson to control the vessel without leaving the cockpit.
Key mechanical and deck layouts include:
Centralised Winch Access: All primary halyards, sheets, and trim lines lead beneath the deck directly to the twin helm stations, keeping the forward cockpit clear of working ropes.
Self-Tacking Jib: A standard track allows quick, unassisted tacking in tight channels without manual winch grinding.
Isolated Mainsheet: The mainsheet mounts forward on the coachroof, keeping dangerous snap-lines away from guests and creating an unobstructed companionway entrance.
Power Assistance: Optional upgrades include electric under-deck furlers and automated winches for push-button sail handling.
The hull shape features sharp forward entry lines and a broad stern section. This geometry provides high initial stability under a generous press of canvas, while the bow profile helps the boat cut smoothly through coastal chop.

Redesigned aft platform and layout options
The most notable structural shift on deck is a reconfigured stern layout that maximises usable space when at anchor. Hanse has integrated a drop-down bathing platform that sits close to the water, paired with low-profile bench seating built into the transom.
Owners can configure this aft area with an integrated wet bar, which houses either a gas or an electric barbecue grill. For sun and weather protection, the yacht can be ordered with a fixed GRP hardtop over the main cockpit or a series of modular canvas biminis.
Below deck, the layout resembles an open-plan loft space, illuminated by four large flush-mounted deck hatches and cross-ventilated through 26 separate openings. Hanse offers up to 48 individual cabin and galley permutations. The forward section can accommodate either a single owner’s suite with a central island bed or be split into two separate double cabins. The midships area allows for variable configurations of the saloon, linear or L-shaped galleys, utility spaces, and dedicated crew or guest berths.

Fleet lineup in Cannes
The premiere of the 461 anchors a four-vessel exhibition for the German builder at the 2026 festival. Hanse will display a sequential cross-section of its modern fleet, showcasing:
Hanse 360: A compact, high-volume cruiser for entry-level buyers.
Hanse 410: A mid-sized model focusing on eco-conscious auxiliary power options.
Hanse 461: The focal point and newest addition to the lineup.
Hanse 590: The current fleet flagship, geared toward luxury long-distance cruising.
The fleet will be available for dockside viewing and boarding throughout the six-day event in Cannes.
