Forty-one years after its first running, Hamilton Island Race Week remains one of the fixtures that shapes the Australian sailing season. The 2026 edition takes place 15–22 August in the Whitsundays, drawing together a fleet as varied as the sport itself, set against the Great Barrier Reef and supported by a shore programme that has grown well beyond a typical regatta social calendar.
The breadth of the fleet speaks for itself. At one end sits Wild Thing 100, the 100-foot maxi co-owned by Grant Wharington and Adrian Seiffert. At the other, Aquila, a 6.9-metre Sonata 7, will line up alongside boats many times its size. Hong Kong yachtsman Karl Kwok adds an international dimension, bringing Beau Ideal to the Super 40 division. Serious offshore campaigners and first-time social sailors share the same start lines, which goes some way to explaining the event's durability.

Entry numbers have already signalled strong demand for 2026. Hamilton Island Chief Operating Officer Renae Trimble pointed to the figures as a measure of the regatta's staying power. "Hamilton Island Race Week continues to attract sailors, spectators, and holidaymakers from across Australia and around the world," she said. "With more than 170 boats already entered and tickets to the onshore program now on sale, we're looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Hamilton Island for another memorable Race Week this August."
Racing remains the foundation, but the shore programme has developed a character of its own. The 2026 lineup includes a long lunch at Niland's Catseye Pool Club, presented by American Express, with chefs Josh Niland and Khanh Ong headlining. At Bommie Restaurant, guests can attend a conversation with Olympic silver medallist Olivia Price and America's Cup sailor Cole Tapper. The programme also takes in the Kylie Minogue Wines Garden Party at Beach Pavilion, the Tanqueray Supper Club at Romano's, and the Race Day Long Lunch on the Keel Deck, with spectator cruises aboard the superyacht Rascal putting guests on the water for a direct view of the racing.
Several new partnerships have been confirmed for 2026. American Express continues as Presenting Partner, while Volvo Cars joins as Official Automotive Partner, Ahoy Club as Official Superyacht Partner, and Saya Skincare and Kylie Minogue Wines are also new to the roster. Volvo will have two of its flagship electric models available for guest transfers and on show at the Marina precinct, aligning the brand's sustainable luxury positioning with the event.

Ahoy Club's involvement extends beyond a naming credit. The superyacht specialist is supplying Rascal for the event's spectator cruises, placing guests directly on the water with views of racing through Dent Passage and around the Whitsundays.
American Express Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Member Experience Naysla Edwards pointed to the event's particular mix as the draw for the brand. "Hamilton Island Race Week combines sailing, travel, dining, and entertainment in a way few Australian events can. We're proud to return as Presenting Partner and look forward to creating memorable experiences for our Card Members throughout the week."
