Gunboat has never been content to follow convention. Since 2002, the French-based yard has steadily challenged assumptions about what catamarans can be, demonstrating that twin-hull design need not choose between blistering performance and serious comfort. The new Fusion line represents its boldest move yet, introducing a category the builder is calling the Grand Touring Catamaran.
The Gran Turismo reference is deliberate. Borrowed from automotive culture, the concept places equal weight on covering vast distances and doing so with elegance, presence, and comfort, rather than treating speed as the sole measure of achievement.
Those wanting a first look won't have long to wait. On 9 September 2025, during the Cannes Yachting Festival, Gunboat will host a full unveiling of the Fusion, complete with 3D visualisations and comprehensive specifications.
At 80 feet (24 metres), the Fusion is built from advanced composites chosen for their combination of low weight and structural integrity. Naval architecture is the work of VPLP, the celebrated French firm whose portfolio ranges from Vendée Globe-winning offshore racers to cruising multihulls. The exterior carries the creative signatures of Patrick Le Quément, widely recognised for his work on Renault automotive design, alongside Christophe Chedal Anglay, a long-standing collaborator on Gunboat projects.
The interior language is a deliberate departure from race-oriented austerity. Christian Gavoille and Valérie Garcia have shaped the living spaces around proportion, natural light, and tactile quality. The centrepiece is a 19m² master suite with its own private access to the water, an indulgence that stands out even by superyacht standards. Above, a panoramic flybridge delivers sweeping visibility when underway and generous open-air living when at anchor.
Despite the shift toward luxury touring, Gunboat has been careful to keep the Fusion anchored in the values that built the brand's reputation. The company's guiding principle, "Fast Sailing. Full Living.", runs through the design at every level.
Managing Partner Benoît Lebizay puts it plainly: "With Fusion, we have gone beyond the typical redefinition of volume and space. Fusion is for those who want to go further, live bigger and make every journey an experience."
It marks a significant evolution for a yard already well known for high-performance models including the Gunboat 68 and Gunboat 80. Where those vessels carved out Gunboat's identity among performance-minded sailors, the Fusion signals an ambition to stake out entirely new ground, a super touring catamaran sitting at the intersection of offshore capability, long-range passage-making, and genuine luxury living.
The Cannes reveal is only the opening chapter. With the Fusion, Gunboat is planting a flag at the point where performance sailing, refined comfort, and global adventure converge, pointing toward where the multihull world may well be heading next.
