Mike Dunlop's Rascal Racing, a modified Elliott 10.5, led the fleet home in Saturday's Fitzroy Bay Race, completing the Wellington course in 2 hours, 50 minutes and 38 seconds. It was a strong showing for the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club entry, which also heads the provisional PHS handicap results.

Yesterday’s race, organised by Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, took competitors through Wellington Harbour and towards the exposed waters beyond the harbour entrance. Conditions became increasingly challenging, with reported swells of four to five metres. Several yachts turned back before reaching the outer harbour, while others continued towards Fitzroy Bay.

In the end, five competitors completed the race which produced two different handicap leaders. Roger Cook's Zimmerframe Racing Team II took second on PHS but leads the provisional PHRF Ins results, ahead of Brent Dewhurst's Gucci.

The closest contest came on PHS. After corrected times were applied, just 55 seconds separated Rascal Racing and Zimmerframe Racing Team II. Gucci's corrected time was another 45 seconds behind, leaving all three within 1 minute and 40 seconds. This was close racing for the start of the season.
