The European Yacht of the Year 2026 titles were announced on Saturday 17 January 2026 at boot Düsseldorf, bringing to a close what many on the judging panel described as one of the most competitive award cycles in the competition's history.
Twenty-one new yachts made it onto the shortlist for 2026, each put through its paces during an extensive series of trials across the European autumn. The scale of that shortlist drew genuine enthusiasm from judges, who saw it as a convincing sign of the vitality running through contemporary yacht design and construction. That vitality is all the more striking given the post-Covid disruption and broader economic pressure the marine industry has had to absorb. Rather than retreating, builders and designers pushed forward with confidence, delivering meaningful innovation and genuine variety across every category.
The judging process was grounded in on-the-water reality. Panels evaluated cockpit ergonomics and deck hardware, assessed structural rigidity, scrutinised edge banding and veneer thickness, and considered how accessible each yacht was to sail. The boats that came out on top shared a consistent set of qualities: well-considered cockpits that invited time aboard, deck layouts that worked hard under load, interiors finished to a solid standard, and a character under sail that rewarded rather than frustrated whoever was at the helm.
That last point was non-negotiable. Every winning yacht earned its award while moving through the water, not while tied to a pontoon. Across categories ranging from cruising catamarans to blue-water passagemakers to performance-oriented designs, the deciding factor was always how the yacht behaved at sea. Even where outright pace was not the primary measure, the judges weighted sailing enjoyment, balance, and control as decisive criteria.
*Best Family Cruising Yacht 2026*
Seven designs were in contention: Beneteau Oceanis 52, Dufour 48, Excess 13, Fountaine Pajot 41, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 415, Lagoon 38, and Leopard 46. The Excess 13 took the title.
*Best Luxury Cruiser 2026*
The nominees were the CNB 62, Saffier SL 46, Wauquiez 55, and Vaan R5. The Wauquiez 55 won the category.
*Best Bluewater Cruiser 2026*
Four yachts were nominated: the Boreal 56, Kraken 58, Pure 42, and Stem 50. The judges awarded the title to the Pure 42.
*Best Performance Cruiser 2026*
Nominees in this category were the Beneteau First 30, Dragonfly 36, JPK 1050, and XR 41. The category produced two winners: the Dragonfly 36 took the Performance Multihull award, while the First 30 claimed the Performance Monohull title.
*Special Award, Newcomer of the Year 2026*
Two designs were put forward for consideration: the Tortue 147 and the WOY 26. The judges awarded a special mention to the WOY 26.
