A new electric outboard purpose-built for kayak fishing is coming from ePropulsion, with the kLite 750 set to make its public debut at ICAST 2026 in July.
The kLite 750 weighs under 15 lbs and houses a 378Wh integrated battery, keeping the unit compact enough for carry-in access to remote waterways. It operates in less than seven inches of water, making it practical in the shallow environments kayak anglers typically fish.
Two modes cover the main use cases. Go Mode delivers 500W of continuous power, with a double-tap of the mode switch triggering a 750W Sport Burst for pushing through rips or shooting rapids. Fish Mode dials back to refined low-end control for precise positioning around structure.
The motor provides up to 300W in reverse via a spring-tensioned mechanism designed to avoid kicking up the propeller and disturbing fish. That same spring gives way smoothly if the motor strikes a submerged object or rock, or on manual lift.
The rudder-shaped design maintains steering even when the throttle is off. A sun-shaded colour display mounts on console, deck, or track, with a low-profile throttle that sits beside the seat without snagging clothing. Setup involves snapping the motor onto a mounting pin and connecting the steering lines and cables. The unit also includes a grab handle for when the mount blocks the kayak's existing carry handle. Optional accessories allow third-party battery recharging while on the water.
The kLite builds on the technology behind the eLite, which targeted tenders and small craft. Tom Watson, president of ePropulsion Americas, said: "When we showed our original prototype at ICAST last year, the interest was substantial. The eLite has already been revolutionary for tenders and small craft, and we are confident that the kLite is going to take kayak anglers to new and exciting places."
The kLite 750 will be on display at ICAST 2026 in booth #1608, running 14 to 17 July 2026, with on-water demonstrations scheduled for 14 July. Units are due to be available for purchase in August 2026.
