Enoshima's 2026 World Championship has been awarded Platinum Level certification in the Clean Regattas programme, the highest rating available under the scheme.
Platinum status recognises events that show an outstanding commitment to environmental responsibility, built on comprehensive eco-friendly practices rather than token gestures.
Afrodite Zegers De-Kline, the championship's Sustainability Lead, deserves particular credit. She is also competing as an athlete at the event, and her dual role shows that sustainability and competitive sailing can coexist.
Organisers credited the local team in Enoshima for making the achievement possible, thanking them for their help, dedication and commitment to making the event more sustainable.
It is a result worth celebrating, and one that sets a high bar for championships still to come.
