Elvest flips north of the Azores, skipper safe awaiting rescue

1 min read

Ocean Fifty skipper Matthieu Perraut has capsized some 400 nautical miles north of the Azores, his boat Elvest flipping over during the Route du Rhum.

The incident happened at 2105 UTC on Tuesday. Perraut got straight on the radio to race direction as soon as it happened.

He remains in constant contact with race organisers and the technical team. The skipper is safe and well, and is currently waiting to be rescued.

The fleet has already faced a bruising few days, with the Atlantic throwing up capsizes, foil damage and vanishing wind as a complex low pressure system reshapes the race north of the Azores.

No further details are yet available on how the capsize occurred, or on recovery plans for the boat itself. More information is expected as the situation develops.
