Emergency services responded to a distressing scene at Whale Bay near Raglan this afternoon after reports of a surfer in need of urgent medical assistance.
Around 2.25pm, the alarm was raised, prompting a swift response from Raglan Surf Life Saving and emergency crews. The man, who was unresponsive when brought ashore by lifeguards, received immediate CPR efforts. Despite this, the surfer could not be revived.
Authorities have confirmed that the death will be referred to the Coroner for further investigation.
