ROCKWOOL Racing SailGP Team ended a record-breaking weekend in Sassnitz with a flourish, taking a podium finish in the final races of the ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix.
The Danish team took a fourth and a second in its two races on the last day of competition, a day after smashing its own world speed record with a new top speed of 106.79km/h.
"We got a few things sorted, we got the boat working today and also remembered how to gybe and tack," said Nicolai Sehested.
"It's a bit of a feature of ours this year, where we don't seem to know how to sail on Saturday, and we come out and clean up a bit on Sunday, so we need to sort that out."
He added: "We knew the speed record would fall one day, but it's pretty incredible that so many teams smashed through the barrier at the same time this weekend. Sassnitz is a great place for racing, and to break two speed records here in consecutive years pretty much says everything about what it has to offer."
Saturday was messier. In big breeze, the Danes missed their warm-up entirely after electrical problems with the wing sail, arriving at the race course with barely any time to spare before racing began.
"It's never easy coming into racing blind, when everybody else has had time to acclimatise and get around the race area, but it is what it is," Sehested said. "We have not had the best of luck with our equipment recently, but our shore team are doing a fantastic job of keeping us in the mix."
The record books took a beating all weekend. ROCKWOOL Racing had set the previous all-time SailGP speed mark of 103.93km/h in Sassnitz last year, but this time three different teams went quicker still.
Los Gallos reached 106.55km/h, before ROCKWOOL Racing pushed on to 106.79km/h. DS Automobiles France went fastest of all, hitting 107.63km/h to claim the new speed crown.
For all the drama, ROCKWOOL Racing's overall result in Germany was 10th, leaving the team 10th in the Season Championship standings.
