Coastguard volunteers from units across the Auckland region will conduct a training exercise in the Hauraki Gulf on Saturday 3 October, with several rescue vessels operating together throughout the day.
The exercise runs from 8:30am to 5:00pm and will see crews practising search patterns, multi-vessel coordination and on-scene command across the Gulf and surrounding operating areas.
Boaties, coastal residents and members of the public are advised that the activity is a planned training exercise, not an emergency response.
Bringing several units together for the day gives volunteers a chance to run through coordination between vessels and on-scene command in conditions closer to a real multi-boat search than routine unit-level drills allow.
Coastguard says the exercise is intended to keep search and rescue crews sharp ahead of the summer boating season, when call-outs on the Gulf typically increase.
