Florida-based dealership CMC Boat Group has acquired Outerlimits Powerboats, the Rhode Island builder known for high-performance offshore vessels, with plans to establish a new manufacturing facility within five miles of the existing factory.
The acquisition brings together marine industry veterans Wally Castro and Scot Conrad as lead partners. Both bring extensive backgrounds in performance boating, racing and product development.
Castro developed his marine credentials through competitive auto racing and offshore powerboat racing, plus his family's third-generation dealership, Wally Castro Marine, which operates throughout Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Conrad has more than 30 years in the industry, including five years as a partner at Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats and 13 years as a competitive racer.
Reinaldo Maykot, with nearly 30 years of experience including leadership roles at Brunswick Corporation involving Boston Whaler, Sea Ray and Bayliner, will support the partnership.
The existing Outerlimits leadership remains intact. Dan Kleitz, who has led day-to-day operations for more than 12 years and helped develop numerous models, continues in his role. Donna Fiore, sister of Outerlimits' original founder, will also remain to provide institutional continuity.
"Outerlimits is an iconic brand with a tremendous heritage and a very loyal following," Castro said. "We're not looking to change what makes Outerlimits special. We're looking to build on it, invest in it and give the brand the opportunity to reach its full potential."
Conrad added: "We see tremendous potential in the brand, and our combined experience gives us the ability to build on its strong foundation. This is about respecting what Outerlimits has always stood for while making the investments necessary to take the company and customer experience to the next level."
The new owners say they will preserve Outerlimits' emphasis on handcrafted construction, distinctive design and highly personalised performance boats, even as the company expands with a second Rhode Island facility.
