Chloe Turner has surged six places into third overall at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, posting back-to-back second-place finishes on day three to plant herself firmly in the medal hunt.
The Murrays Bay Sailing Club sailor started the regatta ninth overall. She now sits on 22 points, behind Greece's Hermionie Ghicas on five and Ireland's Sienna Wright on eight. Two days of racing to go.
Shifty westerly winds ranging from 8 to 25 knots made conditions awkward across both fleets, which made Turner's consistency all the more remarkable. She had already signalled her medal credentials on day two with two top-three results, but the double second has sharpened the picture considerably. On a day when the breeze kept everyone guessing, a 2-2 scorecard stands out.

In the men's fleet, Tom Pilkington leads the Kiwi contingent in 15th overall, backed by two top-10 results overnight. Arran Begic sits 22nd, with Toby Dunn 72nd and Isaac Gaites 96th rounding out the top-100 New Zealanders.
Further back, Thomas Linklater is 130th, Thomas Jurczyluk 157th, and George Turner 170th. Lukas Johnson is 210th overall but sits just inside the top 50 in the under-17 category, which in a fleet this size is worth noting.
At the head of the men's division, Italy's Lorenzo Ghirotti leads on nine points, with Croatia's Toma Smirčić on 10 and Turkey's Ali Özdemir on 11.
Six races are complete in both fleets. The championship moves into its second half later today, New Zealand time.
