K-Challenge, France's challenger for the 38th America's Cup to be held in Naples, Italy in Spring/Summer 2027, is seeking a chase boat driver and motorboat mechanic to join the campaign. The position begins on 15 April 2026 and runs through to the end of July 2027, with work split between Lorient, France and Naples, Italy.
At the heart of the role is the safe and efficient handling of the team's support vessels across both training sessions and regattas. The successful candidate will take on towing duties, safety operations, and the movement of technical personnel on the water. Beyond driving, the position carries significant mechanical responsibility, covering engine maintenance, general repairs, cleaning, and keeping all onboard equipment in reliable working order throughout the campaign.
Fuel management, adherence to team safety protocols, attendance at briefings, and clear communication with shore teams and race organisation staff all form part of the day-to-day workload. The role also extends to assisting with broader vessel operations, craning included.
K-Challenge is looking for a candidate who brings genuine hands-on experience operating RIBs or high-performance powerboats in a professional setting. A powerboat licence is required, and a commercial maritime qualification, such as a Captain 200 or Yachtmaster, would strengthen an application. A solid grounding in maritime safety and demonstrated skills in the maintenance of outboard-powered boats, backed by relevant technical training, are expected. Personal qualities matter too: the ability to work proactively under pressure, adapt quickly to shifting circumstances, and communicate effectively are all essential in a tight-knit team environment. Fluency in English is mandatory, while French and Italian are considered an advantage.
The position is full-time and freelance, with remuneration dependent on experience. Operations will be based in Lorient until September 2026, after which the team relocates to Naples for the Cup campaign itself.
