Jim Murray skippered the 2016 Pac52 Callisto out of Auckland's Waitematā Harbour at 1000 hrs on Friday, 24 October 2025, and the boat made her presence felt at the head of the fleet from the outset. Within the first two hours on the water, Callisto had moved up to second place, sitting directly behind the 27-metre Lucky, a position she held for the remainder of the race.
The boat passed Flat Rock a little after midday at 1:05 p.m. and Sail Rock at 5:14 p.m., keeping a measured and purposeful pace as the breeze shifted along the Northland coast. Conditions remained fair throughout, with lighter patches overnight before the wind filled again as the fleet approached Russell.
Lucky took line honours earlier in the morning, but Callisto's consistent pace and disciplined sailing kept the chasing boats, including Mayhem and Wired, well behind.
Handicap results are still to be confirmed, but the finish cements Callisto's reputation as one of the most competitive and well-sailed entries in this year's fleet.
