The body of a kayaker who went missing near Waiwera, Auckland, has been recovered.
Witnesses saw the man come out of his kayak and fail to resurface, prompting emergency services to be contacted at around 7.30 am on Sunday, according to a police spokesperson.
Police officers, the police Eagle helicopter team, Surf Lifesaving NZ lifeguards, and Coastguard members responded immediately.
By Sunday afternoon, the man's body had been located, the spokesperson confirmed. His family is being supported by police, and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
