Summer is one season away, and boat owners throughout New Zealand are starting to consider what needs attention before the first launch. Whether the goal is finding a first tender or replacing one that has finally had its day, the local market is well stocked with options. What follows is a rundown of every tender up to 5 metres currently available in New Zealand.

AB Inflatables has been producing aluminium and fibreglass-hulled inflatable boats since 1989. The brand name pays tribute to Artigiana Batelli, the Italian boatbuilding company whose craftsmen originally shared their inflatable construction knowledge. Every AB hull features a raised bow design that allows the boat to reach plane with less horsepower than a conventional hull, while producing a ride that is smooth, stable, and dry. ASTenders are manufactured in Germany and reach New Zealand and Australia exclusively through Carbon Yachts. Constructed from carbon fibre over a foam core, the range spans 2.8 metres to 4 metres and features waterproof compartments throughout to preserve buoyancy and maintain safety. High freeboards and a deep V-keel deliver stability and comfort across varying sea states. The company was founded in 2017 by naval architect Thilo Keller and composite design specialist Catarina Jentzsch. Thilo brings considerable pedigree to the brand, with 20 international A-Class catamaran titles to his name.

The 340 Revolve is a fully electric tender, developed in partnership with Mitek and their all-electric 15hp Revolve sterndrive engine. Its hull has been optimised to require 35% less power than a standard RIB, giving it a range of 22.5 nautical miles at 25 knots, or up to 120 nautical miles when travelling at 3 knots. At the touch of a button, the sterndrive auto-stows away cleanly.

Takacat is a New Zealand-designed brand whose inflatable tenders and lightweight dinghies have earned a loyal following both locally and abroad. The LX and Sport Series share a fully removable tube transom system that allows the boats to be rolled up and packed into a carry bag, making them ideal for vessels where stowage space is limited. The LX-R series pairs the catamaran hull with a rigid 3mm alloy deck, boosting performance, load-carrying capacity, and buoyancy.

Whaly Boats build their hulls from polyethylene, the same material commonly used in recreational kayaks. The result is a boat that is virtually unsinkable, demands essentially no maintenance, and can absorb punishment that would leave a fibreglass hull requiring repair. Williams Jet Tenders first came to market in 2004 and, manufactured in the United Kingdom, the brand has since produced more than 12,000 units. OneTenders produces two distinct families of premium carbon-fibre tenders, each precision-built using pre-preg, autoclaved technology. The M-Series M35 is a 3.5 metre monohull: ultra-light and agile, it suits rooftop storage or everyday tendering duties particularly well. OC Tenders grew directly out of lived experience on the water. After seven years of circumnavigation aboard their performance sailing catamaran, Russell and Karin Carlyon arrived at a clear picture of what a capable tender should deliver. Carbon Tenders are the work of Paul Mackenzie, formerly of Salthouse Boat Builders. Lightweight, fully carbon in construction, and customisable to order, they occupy the semi-production category. The pram bow delivers a large volume-to-length ratio, meaning these boats plane as readily as longer vessels while taking up considerably less stowage space. Practical features include fabric-covered foam fenders, built-in buoyancy, a lockable forward storage locker, drop-down beach wheels operable from inside the boat, and oar storage pockets.

True Kit Tenders is a New Zealand-based brand that designs and produces all its boats in-house, selling directly to customers without a dealer network. Owner Rod Dawson came to boat design through professional yachting, and that background shaped the core requirements for every model: lightweight, stable, portable, high-performance, and top quality. His time in America's Cup racing left a lasting mark on the brand's values, with attention to detail, safety, and reliability present throughout the range.

The MicroTENDER range is a compact alternative to conventional inflatable dinghies. Despite a very small deck footprint, these boats are stable and carry a large load relative to their size. Three different construction options cater to different needs, and design features include a central helm pod, an adjustable bench seat, and a unique drop sheerline that ensures maximum freeboard.
