One person has been taken to hospital in moderate condition after a boat capsized on the Rangitīkei River bar at Tangimoana Beach on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Manawatū beach around 8am following reports of three people in the water.
Hato Hone St John said two ambulances, an operations manager and a rapid response vehicle attended. One patient was transported to Palmerston North Hospital. The condition of the two others has not been released.
Coastguard Statement
Coastguard said its National Operations Centre was notified just after 8am. Volunteers from Coastguard Manawatū responded with their jet ski Blue Rescue and rescue vessel Kevin Morris II.
In a statement to Go Boating NZ, the Coastguard communication center said: "Just after 8:00am this morning, Coastguard's National Operations Centre was notified of a capsized vessel on the Tangimoana/Rangitīkei River bar, with reports of three people in the water. Volunteers from Coastguard Manawatū responded with their jetski Blue Rescue and rescue vessel Kevin Morris II.
The NZ Police are leading the response".
Police, Fire and Emergency NZ and St John remain on site. Police said they would provide further information when available.
