A technical issue with Connemara, one of Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries' vessels, has thrown weekend travel between Wellington and Picton into disarray, with multiple sailings called off across both Saturday and Sunday.
Engineers identified the fault on Saturday morning, with Connemara held in port while repair work is carried out. The knock-on effect has seen a string of services cancelled on both days.
The 8.15am Wellington to Picton departure has been cancelled on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's disruptions extend further, with the 2.30am and 2pm Picton to Wellington services both scrapped. The 2pm Picton to Wellington sailing on Sunday has also been cancelled.
Bluebridge has been reaching out to affected passengers via email and text, though the company warned that space on alternative sailings is tight. For those hoping to still make the crossing, standby lists are available at both the Wellington and Picton terminals.
Passengers needing to adjust their bookings can do so through the Bluebridge website or by contacting the customer service team directly. The company noted its call centre was fielding an unusually high volume of calls.
Connemara has also had sailings cancelled earlier this month due to a separate technical fault.
