Beach Weekend has opened a new marina on Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas, pushing its Key West operation across the Gulf Stream and into the Abacos for the first time.
The Key West marina has long served as a launch point for sandbar days, snorkelling trips and sunset cruises around the Florida Keys. Boaters there can hire double-decker pontoons for group outings or take a Panga out for a day's fishing, with a full fleet and gear available through the full-service marina.
The new Bahamas base brings that same casual, beach-first approach to a fresh patch of water, just a crossing away from Florida. Green Turtle Cay sits in the Abacos, and its turquoise water and laid-back island pace make it, in the group's pitch, a natural extension of the Key West style.
Wet slips are available for boaters wanting to tie up and stay a while. The marina has a restaurant and bar, a pool beneath a signature sea turtle mural, pickleball courts, and a ship store stocked with sunscreen and supplies for those who'd rather not run errands mid-holiday.
Vacation rentals are also on offer for those wanting more than a single night at the dock. They feature bright, airy interiors, full kitchens for family breakfasts and sunset cocktails, bedrooms with water views, and porches and balconies built for doing very little at all.
Bookings for the Bahamas marina and rentals can be made by phone on 242-831-1157, or boaters approaching can hail the marina on VHF Channel 16.
For New Zealand boaties eyeing a Caribbean or Bahamas charter, linked bases on both sides of the Gulf Stream crossing could simplify the logistics. Having dockage, fuel and provisions at each end makes island-hopping through the Abacos a far more straightforward prospect.
