Rather than easing, the breeze continued to build. Wind strength and sea state combined to produce conditions the Race Committee judged unsuitable for safe racing across the fleet. After a sustained period of monitoring and reassessment through the morning, the decision was made to fly AP over A, abandoning the day's racing entirely.
For crews who had been eager to get their first races away, the call was a disappointing one. It is, though, consistent with the approach Bay of Islands Sailing Week takes to competitor safety. The regatta draws a wide mix of boat sizes, divisions, and crew experience levels, and maintaining conditions that are both fair and safe across that entire fleet is always the governing consideration.

The abandonment resets the regatta's programme, with organisers now focused on what tomorrow might bring. Bay of Islands Sailing Week is no stranger to varied and sometimes challenging conditions across its courses, and one lost day does not define the week.
