Organisers of next year's Auckland Boat Show are putting expanded sea trials, amphibious craft and shared boating schemes at the heart of the 2027 event, as they look to widen the net beyond traditional boat buyers.
The show returns from 1-4 April 2027, taking over the Viaduct Events Centre, Jellicoe Harbour and Wynyard Wharf in central Auckland. Alongside the usual line-up of trailer boats and marine gear, organisers are building in more creative ways for people to get afloat.
Auckland has long traded on its "city of sails" reputation. But the way people actually want to own boats, or avoid owning one altogether, is shifting.
"This is showing up at the Auckland Boat Show with a continued focus on trailer boats, amphibious boats and different types of shared or subscription boating," says Stacey Cook.
Sea trials are getting more room this time round, on the back of strong demand this year. "The sea trial zone at this year's event was hugely successful. One of our exhibitors took more than 400 people out and we are building in more space for sea trials to accommodate demand from the industry," Cook says.

Amphibious boats are turning up in greater numbers too, and Cook says the appeal is obvious given the local coastline. "We are also noticing more amphibious boats each year, this makes sense, New Zealand's coastline is so well suited to it and it eliminates the need for tow vehicles, trailers and boat ramps," she says.
Subscription and shared boating models are another area getting more attention from the show. "This is a great starting point to get new boaties out onto the water and experiencing New Zealand's waters, something we will be highlighting this summer season," Cook says. "Hopefully these people will go on and purchase their own boat and discover a lifelong love of boating."
Watersports will feature again too. Foiling was a visible drawcard last year, and Cook says visitors should expect to see more of it in 2027.
There's also a push to reach new audiences off the water, not just on it. "You'll also see more of our marketing focused on new groups, and a new marketing campaign and website coming out soon," she says.
