The regatta doubles as a major continental Olympic qualifier, meaning every race counts for sailors chasing an early advantage in the standings.
World Sailing President Quanhai Li highlighted the strength of the fleet gathered in Japan. "The 2026 Asian Games celebrate some of our most talented athletes and represent a big step forward in our mission to grow our sport globally," he said. "With 146 athletes from 22 countries, it is clear sailing values its place in the Asian Games and we can look forward to some exciting competition."
