Finnish manufacturer Päijän Boats is bringing its adjustable Aerot oars to Metstrade 2026, targeting international distribution after securing Finnish patent approval in June 2025.
The telescopic design allows owners to vary overall length from 190cm to 270cm and reposition the rowlock along the shaft. This addresses a common problem with tenders: finding oars that suit varying boat widths, freeboard heights and rowing positions.
A conventional oar locks you into one geometry. Aerot's anodised aluminium shaft extends continuously through an 80cm range, while the rowlock can be slid to adjust the inboard and outboard lengths. Päijän offers two handle options: a straight grip or an angled Ote handle with rotating grip that the manufacturer claims encourages more natural stroke mechanics.
The company has designed the oars around replaceable components – shaft, handle, rowlock fittings and blade can be swapped individually rather than replacing the complete oar. Materials are anodised aluminium for the shaft, fibre-reinforced polyamide for handles and rowlocks, and fibre-reinforced polypropylene for the blade.
Rowlock compatibility covers 17mm stainless steel pins (Finnish standard) plus ½ inch and ⅝ inch options for international markets.
