The ILCA Asian Cup 2026 is underway in Qinhuangdao, China, with World Sailing President Quanhai Li officiating at the opening ceremony at Seatopia in the Beidaihe New Area and simultaneously inaugurating the new ILCA Asia Qinhuangdao Sail Training Centre.
More than 200 sailors, coaches, and officials from 16 countries and regions have gathered for the four-day regatta on Bohai Bay. Li used the occasion to reaffirm World Sailing's commitment to growing participation and strengthening athlete pathways across Asia.
Joining him were ILCA Asia Chairperson and ILCA Vice President Aileen H Loo, Chinese Yachting Association Vice President Fu Danqing, ILCA World Council Member and Principal Race Officer Hugh Leicester, and representatives from Hebei Province and the Qinhuangdao Municipal Government.
The new training centre is set to become a key regional hub for athlete development, coaching education, race official training, and international sailing exchange. With good conditions on Bohai Bay, Qinhuangdao is building a reputation as a serious venue for international events.
Racing is underway across multiple divisions of the three ILCA classes. Several competitors have been selected to represent their nations at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, later this year, giving the regatta added weight as a preparation event.
The regatta also counts as a ranking event for the ILCA Asia Annual Ranking, alongside December's 6th ILCA Asian & Open Championships. The top-ranked sailor from each division at year's end will receive a waiver of entry fees for all 2027 ILCA Asia events.
